More and more Apple devices support portrait mode. This bokeh effect is achieved thanks to the double camera , however, we can also achieve it with an iPhone without a double camera.
Patch is a free app available on the App Store that allows us to create a blur on the background of our photos. To do this, the app analyzes the elements of the image and manages to differentiate what is the main thing and what is the background. The process is relatively simple, and the results are very good, so it’s ideal for anyone who wants to take this kind of photos and doesn’t have a dual-camera iPhone.
Using the app is simple, once it is installed you just have to open it and select the image you are interested in. Try to make an image with enough definition , a well-lit image and the element you want to leave in focus differentiated from the rest. When you have the image, the app will analyze in seconds what it contains and create a blur.
In most cases the result is decent , but if you notice that it has blurred parts that it shouldn’t or vice versa, what you should do is correct it yourself. By clicking on the brush at the top we can edit the image, adding or deleting parts to keep in focus. When you have it, just save it in the Photo Library or share it to another app.
As indicated, the app is free. It does however have an in-app purchase that removes a watermark from the bottom right . This watermark doesn’t have to be a problem, and in many cases we can simply crop the image later. But if it becomes annoying for you, you can remove it from your photos with an in-app purchase of 2.29 euros.
