The uncontrolled spread of false news through social networks and instant messaging services is the order of the day. Last night WhatsApp posted a new blog entry with new measures to prevent the spread of this news that we can see immediately implemented in our groups.
A few weeks ago we saw WhatsApp implement a new tag that appeared on forwarded messages, whether the message was a photo, video, link or text. This measure started the war against fake news, but the developers wanted to go one step further.
Along with this measure, WhatsApp has immediately incorporated a limit to the forwarding of messages to the different groups. From now on, we will have a limit of 20 groups to which we can forward a particular message , except in India that the limit has been set at five groups.
Fake news have reached the limit of generating acts of violence in India, and that is why social networks must take measures to avoid the propagation of this type of messages that end up confusing the user.

In any case, these measures will eventually be insufficient, because a way to forward these messages will always be found, infinitely. The final solution will be to warn the user when they are reading a fake news item, something we have already discussed in other articles . This will be achieved with the collaboration of the entire WhatsApp community and also with an artificial intelligence system that can determine whether the content of a link is real or not.
