WhatsApp starts banning users who use modified versions of the app in iOS

WhatsApp wants us to use their official messaging application and not use modified third party customers who may end up putting our own security at risk. If it is true that this problem occurs more often on Android where it is easier to install unauthorized applications, on iOS it can also be done if we have the jailbreak done on our device.

Account banning had only been seen on Android as mentioned above, but since the messaging service has started to take equally harsh action against those iOS users who have also dared to use a modified version of the app.

WABetaInfo has been the information channel that has revealed the company’s intentions through Twitter. In this same message it has asked all users to use the official client found in the App Store by uninstalling any modified version they have installed on their iPhone.

We fully agree that all users should remain on the official version of the messaging service, as the consequences of a ban are important . You must remember that the sanction would apply to your phone number, so changing devices or installing the official version after being sanctioned would not fix anything.

Although WhatsApp did not want to reveal the reasons for this measure, they probably want to prioritize the security of users and that all information is transmitted through their official applications.

In recent weeks we have seen improvements in the security of the service such as the “forwarded” label that appears on messages that have been forwarded from one chat to another, or the future functionality of alerting us to suspicious links that we receive.
