With the possibility of WhatsApp officially coming to the iPad, the king of instant messaging applications continues to add new features to continue to rival such powerful alternatives as Telegram. It appears that a future update will allow voice messages to be played from notifications .
The WABetainfo website, which specializes in reporting on new features of WhatsApp that are still in the testing phase, has shared several screenshots that show that it will be possible to listen to audios from the notifications, i.e. without having to enter the application .
So far, only text messages can be read in notifications and shared images can be previewed. When an audio is received, it is essential to access the app in order to play it. However, this could change in the future, as the beta version 22.214.171.124 activates this feature to a small group of users .
However, upgrading through TestFlight to receive the latest trial version of WhatsApp does not mean we can enjoy this feature. Facebook’s proprietary service has a unique way of choosing lucky users who can try out future features, and is related to the last digit of our phone number .
Our colleague Julio Cesar Fernandez explains that this is possible because WhatsApp, despite being a native app, has not included many system features so far such as interactive notifications with rich content . That is: notifications with interactions and multimedia content exist since iOS 10, but almost nobody implements them because they require native programming and including an extension in the app. The extension is like another small executable attached to yours (the notification) that allows that interactivity. The notification connects to a view (interface) of your app and allows you to get information from it. This is the advantage of using native over hybrid or other libraries. In future versions we could expect the implementation of video playback, even. And of course, the improvement of the quality of the attachments in the notifications, as better quality of the images shared both in the iPhone and in the Apple Watch.
Apart from voice messages, this feature also allows you to play any audio files shared via WhatsApp from the notification, such as a song. As commented from WABetainfo, contacts will not be notified that it has been played until the application is accessed. It is not known when this will be officially available .
