Sometimes we are not able to see beyond our own desires or “needs”.
Yes, I have also sometimes wondered where are those hundreds of new features that you have not just glimpsed with respect to the previous version of the operating system. What would you think if you knew that many applications of the system are fully optimized for people with physical disabilities ?
The truth is that the possibility of taking a perfectly framed picture thanks to the voice over can only be good news for a blind person. Yes, the iPhone 4S camera is able to detect faces, but not only that, voice over tells us how many faces are in the frame and whether or not they are in focus . And the same can be considered for the other applications included by default in the system, Calendar, Mail, iPhoto or Maps are perfectly adapted.
Entire communities of blind iPhone users help each other (e.g. in Canada) to learn how to use the possibilities offered by the iPhone and voice over to meet their needs with smartphones on a daily basis. I’m sure many of them will appreciate the effort Apple engineers put into bringing them these types of technologies, which unfortunately is not very common.
