With this, VLC will join the cart of what is already the main competitor of AppleTV and with which many applications have been made compatible from various platforms. The Chromecast formula, in the form of the low-cost pendrive that connects to HDMI ports on TVs, has attracted the general public to the extent that many iOS device users prefer to combine it with Plex.
VLC is also one of the most universal and used video players. This compatibility with the Chromecast will further extend the popularity of the accessory, putting even more pressure on the AppleTV and a hypothetical upgrade that has been rumoured for years.
Now the question is: when will we see that VLC 3.0? There’s no official date . Right now the latest version is 2.4.1 and knowing that the player is open source I wouldn’t count on us seeing it too soon. Patience, at the moment there are other programs with which we can use Chromecast.
