We usually don’t get any major news from Swift unless we’re on the keynote at WWDC, the world’s largest annual Apple developer event. But the project’s official blog has revealed some of the immediate plans, which include the launch of Swift 3.1 .
Ted Kremenek, head of programming languages at Apple, specifies that Swift 3.1 will add some improvements to the kernel and also enhance Swift Package Manager. The library and compiler are also being tweaked, and Linux support will also take root after appearing last year.
The other part of the news is that once Swift 3.1 is released, the Cupertino development team will focus exclusively on preparing Swift 4 . This is probably something we will see at WWDC 2017, whose official date is not yet confirmed and will not be until well into next year.
For now, one change we’ll see is that the development of Swift 3.1 will be updated daily , something much more frequent than the classic previous versions that Apple has accustomed us to. This will keep the programmers busy and solve any bugs sooner .
