Vodafone UK forgets about set-top boxes and offers its customers the Apple TV 4K with one year of Apple TV+ free

More and more telephone and Internet operators are adding TV channel offers to their packages. Most offer a decoder with which to access content (see Movistar), but others are turning to devices with a certain reputation on the market with which to allow users to access all their sources of entertainment, such as the Apple TV 4K .

The Canal+ subscription TV service in France was one of the first to offer its customers the possibility of using an Apple TV as a replacement for the traditional set-top box. Now it is Vodafone UK that delivers Apple’s set-top box to those who have signed up for the Vodafone Together tariff.

The Vodafone Together tariff provides users with high-speed broadband and unlimited 5G data in the UK and Europe. In addition to the Apple TV 4K, a one-year subscription to Apple TV+ is also offered, as well as the option to select Amazon Prime Video, Now TV Entertainment Pass or Spotify. Prices start at £54 per month .

As PP Foresight analyst Paolo Pescatore tells us, according to The Mac Observer , “Apple is very well positioned to be chosen as a partner by telecommunication companies. Many of them are abandoning expensive equipment and are looking to offer the best experience on the largest number of devices both indoors and outdoors without having to worry about data or speed” .

In addition, Max Taylor , head of the Consumer Business Unit at Vodafone UK has made the following statements:

Will this option ever reach Spain?

In Spain, Vodafone currently offers the TIVO 4K decoder to customers who have contracted the appropriate rate. The Vodafone TV application is present in a small number of devices: smartphones and tablets with Android or iOS, PC, Mac, online through its website, in Samsung smart televisions manufactured from 2017 or Chromecast. As explained on the page, is not available on Apple TV .

Therefore, does not seem that Vodafone Spain will give the option in the short to medium term . However, if we look at other operators that offer their services in Spanish territory, things do not look good either. Movistar+ has been claiming for years that the application for Apple TV is in development, but it has not yet been launched. And in Orange, although it supports other tv boxes with Android TV such as the Nvidia Shield TV or the Nexus Player, they do not make reference to Apple’s either.
