As you know, since a few days ago Samsung Gear S2, S3 and Gear Fit 2 wearables are compatible with iOS, which means that we will be able to use our iPhone to monitor our data. If you have an iPhone and one of the compatible wearables, we show you how to get the most out of it : connect, download apps, configure S health. Read on.
Preparing your Samsung Gear wearable
The first thing we’ll do is get the Samsung Gear wearable ready. If it’s new, just turn it on and wait for it to start . If you were already using it with an Android device, you’ll have to restore it in order to sync it with another smartphone, in our case iPhone.
To restore your Samsung gear go to Settings> Gear info and click on Restore and then Restore Factory. Once you confirm, let the clock reset, which will take a few minutes. Once it restarts, it will be ready.
Syncing your Samsung Gear with iPhone
To sync your Samsung wearable with your iPhone you will need to download the Gear S app from the App Store for the S2 and S3 or Gear Fit for the Samsung Gear Fit 2. Here are the two:
If you have a Samsung Gear S2 or Samsung Gear S3 :
If you have a Samsung Gear Fit 2 :
Once installed, open it and let it detect your smartwatch via Bluetooth – obvious but, you need to have Bluetooth enabled! Once you “see” it, click on connect. You’ll be asked to enter a code on your iPhone which will appear on the Samsung watch screen. Confirm on both devices, with their corresponding licenses, and voila, paired devices!
To get the most out of both devices it is recommended that you allow your iPhone access to location, calendars and photos .
Setting up S Health
To start with the S Health app, click on that section in the Gear app. Enter your S Health account details or create a new account there . Once you are registered, S Health will record your steps and your sleep. You can also record data such as your heart rate, workouts, water and caffeine intake. All this data will be synchronized later on your iPhone, but oh, wow! They will not be integrated into the native iOS Health app . Big mistake.
Download apps and appearances for your watch
Samsung watches have several fantastic apps of their own and some pretty interesting interface designs . To add them, go to the Settings section of the Gear app and then click on Samsung Galaxy Apps .
Inside the shop you can navigate using the menu button in the upper right corner. You can also see which apps you have downloaded in the section My apps , both on iPhone and on previous smartphones.
When you find an app you want to install, simply click on the download button, accept and the process will start . You’ll see a status bar that tells you when the app is ready to use on your device.
