Technology has had an unquestionable protagonist these last days: the folding smartphones. They have been the biggest novelty of the Mobile World Congress 2019, held in the city of Barcelona. Manufacturers such as Samsung with its Galaxy Fold and Huawei with its Mate X have shown the world their proposals that plan to revolutionize the concept of the smartphone as we know it.
Since two of Apple’s biggest rivals have been encouraged to enter this sector, many are wondering when we will see an iPhone with a folding screen. There is no information to indicate that Cupertino’s people are working on one , although nothing makes us think we won’t see it in the year 2020.
Currently Samsung is, together with LG, one of the suppliers of OLED panels for the iPhone XS and XS Max . In addition, the South Koreans have sent samples of folding screens to Apple for them to consider if they are encouraged to launch such a smartphone.
Although all attention is focused on smartphones, it seems that nobody had thought about the possibility of a tablet with a folding screen . The medium LetsGoDigital has created some renders of what the iPad would look like with this technology.
The iPad with the largest screen is the 12.9-inch Pro. Working with it is very comfortable, but not as comfortable as working with a 15-inch MacBook Pro. Imagine having a panel that, when displayed, is 26 inches , about the same size as the iMac. It could be used as an external monitor or to perform graphic design, video editing, or photography tasks with great precision and quality.
This is just a concept . There’s nothing to suggest that Apple is working on an iPad with a folding screen. Besides, if it is already an expensive device, we should see how much it is worth with this technology.
