It doesn’t cost much to imagine: what do you think would happen if an Apple Authorized Dealer near you launched an offer with which he wants to sell a limited amount of iPhone at $50 ? You wouldn’t hesitate to run for one of them no matter the model, would you? Well, that’s what happened recently with a distributor in Malaysia.
The idea they had in that distributor is to sell old inventory of the iPhone 5s at $50, with the healthy intention of emptying stores of models that no longer sell as well as before. The result: over 11,000 people collapsed the mall that that distributor is in .
Although we’re months away from that, iPhone 5s is still a phone that supports the latest version of iOS. It’s not the most powerful, but for basic use it still works. And if you sell it for 50 dollars, many will want to buy it. Even more so when you add MacBook Air units at $128 and older iMac models at $255 to the offer.
In the end, the crowd was such that the shop itself had to close and apologize . As the security measures in the shopping centre were not so comprehensive, sales had to be suspended. Moral: when you’re going to make this kind of unrepeatable offer, better set up a reservation system on the web.
