Third beta of Catalina 10.15.1 macOS: what’s new and how to install

It has been three weeks since it was launched for all public Catalina macOS and we have already seen some additional updates to solve minor errors especially focused on failures in the installation. But as it could not be otherwise to are already working on the next major update of Catalina, macOS 10.15.1, whose third beta for developers is already available.

macOS 10.15.1 beta 3 arrives with no new highlights

The truth is that we are in an era where the new features coming to Ma’s operating system c are quite subtle and almost non-existent and this beta shows it as it hardly includes any new features.

In this third beta, at least at the time of writing this article, we have not found any notable new features beyond internal corrections which the company always incorporates. Developers may find some changes when preparing their apps for this system, although for the moment nothing new in the Catalyst Project that allows them to create apps for macOS from iOS code.

In the previous beta we saw as a remarkable novelty the arrival of the request for permissions to be able to record Siri invocations with the aim of improving the voice assistant. This was already done before but did not ask any kind of permission causing quite a lot of discomfort among users but this will end up changing completely thanks to the release of macOS 10.15.1.

How to install 10.15.1 MacOS Beta 3

The first thing you should know is that a beta is not a stable version and therefore may bring certain bugs that cause your experience not to be entirely good. It is therefore advisable to have a backup of your data made, either through Time Machine or any other tool that can be used to do so.

If you have already installed the second beta of macOS 10.15.1, just go to System Preferences>Software Update and you will find the second beta ready to download and update.

If you are currently on a stable version, whether it is a Catalina 10.15 or an earlier version, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. Open your browser, preferably Safari, and go to betaprofiles.com.
  2. Click on “macOS Catalina” and you will see how the window is directed to the part where the beta is.
  3. Click on “Download” and the download of the developer profile will begin.
  4. You must run the downloaded file as if it were another application.
  5. Go to System Preferences , Software Update and you will see that the beta is now ready for download and installation.

That’s how easy it is to install the 10.15.1 macOS beta, although we insist on emphasizing that we don’t recommend installing it because of the instability it can generate, and since the Mac is generally intended for main use it can be risky. However, you can always go back to an earlier version and restore a backup.
