When Apple and IBM announced their partnership to transform mobility in the enterprise , they were not kidding when they said they would develop over 100 truly unique and targeted business solutions for the iPhone and iPad. The first wave, as they describe it, is made up of ten apps and as we will see below, they cover specific needs of the banking sector, commerce, insurance, financial services, telecommunications, airlines and public administration.
However, you will not find the apps of IBM MobileFirst for iOS in the App Store. They are distributed in a secure environment, “integrated with analysis tools and linked to key business processes” . They are sort of base models that can be adapted to the specific needs of companies that hire them along with IBM services and AppleCare for Enterprise support.
Travel and transport
Aimed at flight attendants, this tool allows the crew to offer a personalized service for each passenger during the flight, including special offers, flight reservations and baggage information. In addition, the app is able to anticipate how a possible delay will affect the connections of VIP passengers to recommend alternatives and even send them their tickets by e-mail to add the new reservations to Passbook.
It provides pilots with access to logging systems to more accurately estimate the fuel needed for their next flights. Apple and IBM claim that with this app, pilots can make informed decisions that lead to significant savings in excess fuel and its associated costs – no small feat considering we’re talking about the biggest expense for any airline.
The app also allows pilots to consult schedules, routes and the flight plan in advance, as well as to report problems during the flight to the ground staff and to know the weather and traffic information of the airport. Almost nothing.
Banking and Financial Services
Advise & Grow
It brings banks closer to their clients with small businesses so that, no matter what the reason for the appointment, the banker has all the relevant account information at his fingertips in a second: profiles, financial and credit data, competitor analysis… All figures are cross-checked and processed in real time to enable more personal advice.
Under a simple and intuitive interface we found a system to quickly access a robust set of financial information available on demand. A sophisticated tool for portfolio modelling that uses predictive analysis in the field, so that the advisor can meet his clients anywhere and still carry out both simulations and secure transactions.
Here’s an interesting use of iBeacon technology: locate and identify customers in your own store so you can help them with recommendations based on their previous purchases, check stock, locate items, and ship products from the store. Something like Amazon recommendations but transferred to the physical stores.
Pick & Pack
Apple lanza su primera “hornada” de aplicaciones empresariales con IBM
The name says it all: making it easier for insurance agents to keep their customers. With this app they can access customer history and profiles, with risk assessments, alerts, reminders and intelligent recommendations on how to proceed in each situation. It also allows them to contact customers and perform operations such as collecting electronic signatures and premiums.
One hundred percent focused on the technicians of the telecommunications companies, yes, those with such a good reputation of being punctual. The app allows them to choose a vehicle and the inventory they will need on departure, and once en route, it uses the traffic information to help them plan a more optimal route to reach customers sooner. Finally, in the field it provides technical information, diagnostics and video tutorials, and if the technician still needs help from a more experienced colleague, he can request it in real time to establish a FaceTime connection with him.
With the not inconsiderable objective of transforming the way social workers handle their cases, this app tries to reduce their workload by replacing the traditional paperwork with an intelligent system with all the relevant information of each family or situation. The app prioritizes cases based on real-time analysis and assesses risks based on predictive analysis.
Last but not least, this iPhone app addresses the needs of another important area of public service: law enforcement. Officers equipped with it can receive crime notifications and have real-time access to crime scene maps and videos, victim status information, hazard warnings, and crime histories. In addition, it allows you to request reinforcements or support services in an optimal way with a bird’s eye view that places each element of the situation on the map.
Not bad for six months’ work, don’t you think?
