Do you like role-playing games but don’t have time for them? Do you find it hard to get up in the morning and need extra motivation? Then try Dreeps, a new iPhone application on the App Store.
Dreeps is classified as “an alarm game” , a hybrid between an alarm clock and an RPG title.
To play Dreeps, we must first set an alarm time before going to sleep, thus activating the life of the main character in the story.
When the alarm goes off in the morning, we won’t be the only ones to wake up from their sleep, the Dreeps’ robot boy will too. As we live our daily lives, the robot boy will also live all kinds of adventures.
But here comes, perhaps, the most interesting thing about Dreeps for iPhone… We won’t really need to play. In fact the story will advance automatically. Before we go to sleep we’ll be able to take a look at how things are going, and if we wake up next to the alarm the next morning, the robot boy’s life will regenerate and he’ll be able to continue living his adventures even if we’re not there.
Dreeps for iPhone will also allow us to imagine our own version of the story of this nice, if strange, character. With hardly any text in the game to dictate the course of the story, Dreeps presents all kinds of visual clues to offer us to think our own narrative.
This original RPG game for iPhone has been created and developed by 3 designers: Illustrator Hisanori Hiraoka, musician Kyohei Fujita, and programmer Daisuke Watanabe, and yes, dear readers, these are 3 Japanese developers based in Tokyo.
It is well known that RPG games are deeply rooted in the gamer culture and tradition in Japan, and the artistic graphics and soundtrack of Dreeps are very characteristic , but… will it be successful among iOS users?
As an idea, the truth is that it’s not bad at all, we’re talking about a game that really doesn’t need to be played, whose pixelated art and story can hook players and, what’s more, it has an excellent graphic setting that will immerse us in a totally new fantasy world . But will this new concept of application motivate us to get up every day? Have you tried it out yet? Do you think the initiative of these 3 Japanese people will work?
