The RAM in the new Mac mini is soldered onto the motherboard and cannot be expanded

Many fans celebrated what was explained in less detail in last Thursday’s keynote: the update of the Mac mini . There was already a lot of need for an update of this computer, and I know more than one who was waiting for this update to buy a drive. But with the release have come the details, and there is one that may not like: the RAM memory is soldered onto the motherboard .

The consequence is simple: cannot be extended . The maximum 16 GB offered by Apple is the one we can have and, therefore, it is recommended if we want the computer to last a certain amount of time. But of course, the extension costs 300 euros in the basic model and 200 in the more powerful models.

Those prices are not bad by Apple standards, but in the case of Mac mini we would be spending practically half the price of the computer in its RAM . However, the “syndrome” of with just a little more money I already buy the iMac is still lurking in the heads of buyers.

Anyway, I have no doubt that this rather modest Mac will continue to have its faithful . It’s a perfect solution to have connected to the TV, or to use as a home server or media center that manages movies and series. The new Mac mini, let’s remember, is already available at the Apple Store from 499 euros with OS X Yosemite pre-installed.
