As China Times reports, Apple may make a slight change to the wireless charging portion of iPhone. It currently uses a polymer ferrite compound to transmit power from the charging dock to the device. According to the Chinese media, this compound would be replaced by a copper coil in the new models . As a result, the wireless charge could be somewhat faster than the current one, without overheating the device.

Charging using the Qi standard has certain limitations at present, one of which is the small amount of energy that can be transmitted without overheating the charging base or the device receiving it. Wireless charging is becoming popular because it is much more convenient , however, it should be noted that at the moment a cable charges the device much faster and does not heat it up as much.

If Apple makes this change, we may see a slight decrease in wireless charging time on new phones. However, it should be noted that other factors also play a role, such as the power that the charging base can transmit. Did someone say AirPower? It’s expected to finally go on sale now in September, and it’s likely to have much more charging capacity than current charging cradles, if Apple offers a phone that can handle more than the usual amount of charge.

Finally, it should be remembered that improvements are also expected in cable charging . Current iPhones already have fast cable charging, but Apple may replace the current Lightning to USB-A cable with a Lightning to USB-C cable and an 18W adapter. In other words, quick charging for everyone without having to pay for an extra charger.
