The new Leica M Monochrom can erase your Apple Photo Library

It’s not that the app is incompatible with your DNG files, which it is; it’s that any attempt to import the images may corrupt your library and send our entire photo archive to oblivion.

A chill just ran down my back at that possibility. Luckily, the camera has barely been on the market for a week and its price, 7200 euros, keeps it away from the general public even more than its particular proposal: a digital telemetric camera with a full format sensor that only captures luminance values to produce 24 megapixel black and white images, though with exceptional quality.

The German brand claims to be working with Apple to solve the problem and develop a solution, so don’t be surprised if the next update of OS X Yosemite includes a new version of the Photos app with camera support and, hopefully, mechanisms to prevent something like this from happening again with any of the models that are often sold, even those as niche as the Leica M.
