Nota de prensa oficial de Apple
The new iPad has sold three million units in its first weekend alone, since Friday 16 March. And that’s because the launch has not been worldwide: next March 23rd it will be available in 24 more countries ( including Spain ).
An incredible new record, of which Tim Cook did not want to give more details at the press conference a few hours ago, but we now have official confirmation from the company. They certainly did not want the news to cloud the dividend information and the share buyback program, but it is not something that can be ignored either.
As I said, we are less than four days away from the launch of the new iPad in Spain, and we are looking forward to having it in our hands so that we can offer you an in-depth article with all the detail that the new model deserves. Now, let’s compare how this year’s launch has gone, compared to previous years:
As a curiosity, and to get an idea of the record in sales achieved, I show you the launch figures of the original iPad and the iPad 2.
– The original iPad sold 300,000 units in its first weekend. A great figure, especially considering the novelty of the device and the expectation of where the tablet market was moving.
– The iPad 2 , launched last year around the same time, sold 500,000 units and within a few days, it sold out all the stock that Apple had prepared in its physical stores.
However, today’s news about the sale of three million units is even more surprising. Without a doubt, it shows the enormous interest in the benchmark tablet of the market at this time and an incredible future that we are only beginning to know.
