The new dual-graphics MacBook Pro does not detect the external display after leaving sleep

Mac OS Hints

It seems that some users have detected a problem related to the management of the two graphics cards in the new Apple laptops. The new MacBook Pro does not detect the connected external monitor when it exits the idle state .

I don’t know if this behaviour will affect everyone, but I have personally seen it happen. With a 15″ MacBook Pro and dual graphics connected to a Led Cinema Display everything worked perfectly until I put the computer to sleep. When I lifted the lid, the external display was not recognized.

Some users have found several solutions, the first and least recommended is to restart the computer; the second is to use GfxCardStatus, an application that allows you to select one or another graphic manually as well as monitor the changes that the system automatically makes; and finally to launch any application that forces the change of graphic such as iPhoto.

The final solution for those who are affected will have to come from Apple at some future update. While we know at least that this is not a hardware issue , something that will surely reassure more than one.
