The iPad’s market share remains the best in the market

The iPad is undoubtedly one of the best tablets on the market today and this is clearly seen in the market rate of this device globally. Following the launch of a new report by Strategy Analytics, it has been possible to confirm that the iPad is still the ‘King’ of tablets, but with a competitor that follows closely behind. In this article we tell you the details.

In general, the tablet market is not going through its best moment since has seen its sales reduced by 4% compared to last year. In total, 38.2 million tablets were sent in Q3 2019, while in the same quarter of last year 39.7 million were sold.

Although the market in general has suffered, there are some companies that have barely noticed it, such as Apple, which has seen its iPad sales increase with respect to the previous year. This makes it again the first in the global ranking of companies that sell tablets and by far. But not everything is good, as it is followed by a big competitor that has grown 141% this year and could end up overtaking Apple and its iPad if this trend continues: Amazon .

To make things much clearer, the following table summarizes sales of different tablet brands as well as year-on-year growth.

Unfortunately, Apple no longer provides accurate sales data so analysts have had to take the financial results for the third quarter of the year in order to estimate sales. We are seeing that since Cupertin’s company or managed to sell 10.1 million units in Q3 201 9 which is a growth of 4% over sales obtained last year.

As expected, thanks to the fact that Apple has managed to sell more iPads while the overall market has contracted the market share has increased. We observe that it has gone from 24.4% to 26.5% as can be seen in the following table. But what is really interesting is the rise of Amazon’s tablets, the Kindle Fire, which has gone from a 5.6% market share to 13.9%, holding a second position in the ranking. This has pushed Samsung into third place with a 13.2% share of the global market.

This quarter, Apple has introduced a 7th generation iPad that finally includes connectivity to the keyboards by Smart Connector but maintaining the same price as the previous generation, something that has obviously increased sales. But ultimately this growth is due to the good reception of the iPad Pro thanks to iPadOS. The worry will be to see how it works this fourth quarter as there is no new generation of iPad Pro and that could cause sales to drop slightly.

Without a doubt in the world of tablets only the strongest are resisting and these are the Appl but Amazon has started very strong and is having a very good reception. We’ll have to keep an eye on it to see how it evolves in future quarters but it’s clear that the rivalry between Amazon and Apple for first place will increase.
