How to prevent photos from WhatsApp from being automatically saved to the iPhone

Are you tired of having all the photos and videos you receive on WhatsApp automatically saved on your iPhone’s film ? Normal! You’re probably in a lot of groups where memes, funny videos, silly photos and other usual Internet wildlife are running around.

With WhatsApp’s default settings, all of this content ends up on your iPhone’s film, wasting your time when you want to view your own photos or videos (as well as taking up storage space).

Fortunately it is easy to modify this behavior and in the following lines I will explain how to do it.

Configure WhatsApp not to save the photos and videos you receive

If you want to prevent all the videos and photos you receive on WhatsApp from being saved on the reel of your iPhone you must do this:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap on the Settings icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
  2. Touch on the option Chats.
  3. Disable the Save in Reel switch.

Done! With these three simple steps, your iPhone will stop storing all the photo and video files you receive through WhatsApp in the Photos app.

Once you have made this change you should be aware that if you completely delete a conversation all the files stored in it will disappear completely. This is a good way to reclaim storage space occupied by WhatsApp, but you should keep this in mind so that you don’t delete files by mistake or unknowingly.

The same is true if you uninstall the app from your device, all videos and photos will be lost forever (unless you have a WhatsApp backup).

Saving WhatsApp Photos or Videos on the iPhone

Now that your photos and videos are no longer automatically saved, you may want to know how to do it manually for those cases where you do want to keep the files.

To save the photos and videos you want you must do the following:

  1. Open the photo or video you want to save within the conversation or open a conversation, tap on the name of the contact or group, and then select the Files, links, and docs. option to see all the files exchanged in that conversation.
  2. Tap the sharing icon in the lower left corner of the screen (the icon is shaped like a rectangle with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Select the Save option.

As you can see the process for saving files manually is quite simple and after doing it a couple of times you will have no problem repeating it as long as you don’t need it.

I hope this little tip will help you manage your iPhone’s storage space a little better and also get rid of a lot of “squirting” photos and videos that don’t have any effect on your film.
