The smart speakers are here to stay. After several months available in a small number of countries, they are now starting to land in Spain. First it was Amazon who confirmed that their Echo and Alexa would arrive on the peninsula this year. But it was Google that took the lead and has already put the Home and Mini on sale in the country. The only one we don’t know anything about yet is the Apple HomePod.
Cupertino’s people have not yet indicated when the HomePod will be available in Spain. However, its expansion to Germany and France would indicate that its arrival is imminent . While we Spaniards are still waiting, the discoveries about the loudspeaker do not cease. The HomePod would detect if we have added new furniture to the room or moved it around.
This curiosity has come to light thanks to Reddit. The user honkykat says that he and his girlfriend, while assembling new Ikea furniture, were listening to music on their HomePod. Then, suddenly, Siri said “I like what you’re doing with this place!” .
Naturally, the protagonists of this story were both surprised and frightened by Siri’s comment. Then, after thinking about it for a moment, honkykat concluded that the device detected that there was new furniture in the room.
No, your HomePod doesn’t spy on you: it’s because of the sensors
It would not be crazy to think that voice assistants and intelligent speakers spy on us . There have been cases of recordings of private conversations by Amazon Echo. Even strange behavior like malicious laughter from the also Amazon speaker.
So far, no such incidents have been reported with the Apple device. The explanation for this instant feedback is due to the speaker sensors. These sensors allow the music to be correctly matched to the room . Something like radar waves crashing into objects or walls to find out their position.
And you, what do you think about this answer from Siri? Let us know in the comments.
