The new MacBook Pro released this week has been especially improved on the inside. Laptop Mag
When we see that its starting price starts at 2,000 euros and can reach 11,452 euros it should not surprise us. Upgrading storage from 512 GB of SSD to 4 TB of SSD costs 3,840 euros . The easy and naive answer is that Apple is putting up such exaggerated prices to get more profit margin. However, don’t compare that SSD to a Samsung SATA III that you can get for ?100 at your local computer store.
Laptop Mag has done a series of tests with the new MacBook Pro. It uses the same PCIe based SSD that we have in iMac Pro, if you add the APFS file system… the results it offers make a fool of any other laptop. The Apple MacBook Pro has a speed of 2519 MBs, the second fastest laptop of all is a Dell XPS 13 with Core i7 that reaches… 399.4 MBs It’s basically 6 times faster than the best Windows laptop.
Note, however, that this huge difference is also partly due to APFS , which practically allows instant file copies because it doesn’t copy the file itself, but tells the system where the original file is. In other words, tests should be done with a file system other than APFS and on a laptop without a T2 chip to see the real speed of these SSDs. They are the fastest, but the difference wouldn’t be so great if MacBook Pro didn’t have the full feature set it has. On the other hand, it is also true that the laptop is the whole set of everything, and not the separate parts.
There is no proper adjective to describe what this SSD can do in reading and writing files on the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Apple has provided professionals with a work machine that is virtually unrivalled. However, it should improve in some other aspects according to Laptop Mag. For example, in the graphics aspect when playing DiRT 3 it only achieved an average of 38.8 fps, while almost all other laptops achieved double that average fps.
However, except for the low graphics performance, the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is easily among the best in its class , offering stellar performance. Apple has updated its pro notebook, not skimping on specifications. You’ll find it expensive if you think of it as a laptop, you’ll even find it cheap if you think of it as a work tool.
