Pedro Santamaría informed us, in March of last year, about a new campus that Apple is planning to open in Austin thus expanding its presence in the state of Texas. More than a year and a half has gone by, and AppleInsider has come to the construction site to see how the project is going. And it turns out that its first phase is almost finished .
There are several buildings in an advanced phase of construction, with two of them already showing finished facades, and a fountain in the middle of a small artificial lake that is already functioning presides over the neighborhood. In total, this first phase will have cost 56 million dollars and will house more than 18,500 square meters of offices . It’s not as spectacular as the next Campus 2 in Cupertino, but each of these buildings will surely have the peculiarities that Apple usually has in its offices.
The second and final phase of this campus will begin in 2015 and will multiply by four the office space of the first phase that we can already see in these photographs. This Austin campus will be completely finished around 2021, and the total budget of the project is $304 million. Almost nothing, but small change for a company that has over $110 billion in its safe. For the city of Austin, this campus means the arrival of 3,600 new jobs.
