Apple’s HomePod was presented during WWDC’17, but will not reach the public until the end of this year, i.e. December. This does not mean that it is not already in operation, on a smaller scale, and s that some have already appeared on the net. Since Apple does not officially sell it, it is possibly a test unit for employees of the company working on its development.
On Instagram, for example, a photograph of a user with a HomePod has appeared in what appears to be his kitchen. The funny thing is that the photo was published in Shanghai, China . Since the user’s biography doesn’t reveal anything about his work, it is possibly a unit bought from a worker on the HomePod assembly line.
Benedict Evans, on the other hand, recently shared a screenshot showing a HomePod in the Control Center as available for AirPlay. This time it was shown in Menlo Park, California, so it’s probably an Apple employee trying it out.
These two images don’t offer much detail , but they do show that Apple has increased testing and is starting to use it on a daily basis to see its performance. Although it will arrive in December, we will probably see a preview again during next Tuesday’s keynote.
