Castro for iOS is one of the best podcast players you’ll find out there in the App Store. As we saw when we analyzed it, it has an exquisite design and its inbox functionality for managing episodes is unparalleled right now. The app has recently been updated with a curious new feature: editorial content to discover podcasts .
The app in its last update has completely changed the Discovery section . Similar to the App Store with stories and app collections, Castro has done it with podcasts. Now we’ll see a series of podcast compilations by topic and by category. By entering categories we’ll also continue to see the “top downloads” that until now looked like in iTunes.
What will be interesting though will be the recommendations. At a glance in my case I discovered up to three interesting podcasts that I didn’t know about until now. Right now we find, for example, a collection of podcasts on Apple topics or different podcasts highlighted by some peculiarity of each.
In AppleCastro 3 for iOS, the most convenient podcast player of all: App of the Week
On the other hand Castro also has updated and improved the podcast search . It is now instantaneous, that is, as you type you get results that match the search. It’s also much easier to subscribe directly from a search result by simply tapping + next to the search result.
Finally, Castro has improved in this update a number of details related to the interface . The system as we know is based on an inbox, the player, and the archives, similar to what we have in the mail management. This is what has made Castro popular and in this new version they improve the system to leave a little bit aside the similarity with the mails but keeping the idea. Instead of ‘Inbox’ we now have ‘New’, instead of ‘Archive’ we now have ‘Library’.
Castro is an app that we can download for free from the App Store. The main parts and functions of the app can be used for free. For the premium features a subscription of 8.99 euros per year is required to unlock the whole app. My recommendation? Try the app for a few days. If you’re convinced and need it, buy the subscription.
