The company led by Tim Cook decided that the first major new feature of the keynote would be the Apple Watch Series 3 ; the first Apple smartwatch with integrated LTE connectivity in the device itself.
Thanks to this new feature the Apple Watch Series 3 will not be as dependent on the iPhone as it was until now and this translates into the possibility of, for example, going out for sports and being able to access Apple Music, make or receive calls, send a message, use Siri or even consult an address without having an iPhone nearby.
Phone operators will have to adapt their networks to make Apple Watch Series 3 compatible and will also have to launch data bonus offers. The device will not carry a SIM card itself , but will use a virtual card and will be automatically associated with the network of the operator that the user contracts.
In addition to connectivity, the Apple Watch Series 3 has a significant performance improvement
The Apple Watch Series 3 now has a new dual-core processor, the S3 . This makes the device much faster than previous generations.
It also has a new chip that improves the speed of WiFi connectivity by up to 85%.
There are also improvements to the device’s built-in microphone. This is logical as it now allows calls to be made without the iPhone and with this new microphone it will be possible to talk without having to hold the clock close to your mouth .
Same design and digital crown in red
The Apple Watch Series 3 has exactly the same design as previous generations : same size and thickness.
In the case of the version with mobile connectivity, the digital crown is red . A small change to differentiate the version with connectivity from the one without it.
