A study conducted by the Cleveland clinic recently states that the Apple Watch has the most accurate heart rate sensor on the market.
This study was done with 50 people and tested the Apple Watch together with our competitors : Fitbit Charge HR, Mio Alpha and Basis Peak. The differences were quite evident, leaving the Apple Watch in a better position.
Basically, the Apple Watch achieved approximately 90% accuracy , while the others were close to 80%.
Apple explained at the time that the Apple Watch includes a heart rate sensor that is based on existing PPG technology . This technology uses an emitter and a light sensor to measure the pre-fusion of blood on the skin. This data is compared and contrasted by the Apple Watch using special algorithms.
Let’s remember that Apple’s goal is to enter more and more into the field of health. The Apple Watch is a first step towards bringing health closer to consumers. Apple currently has an entire department focused on health and the collaborations with numerous medical institutions in recent months is proof of this.
