With the downward revision of the financial results that Apple has made these days, some interesting data has come to light that we did not know until now and can give us more clues about Apple’s situation. One of those data has to do with the Apple Watch, which is on its way to becoming one of the pillars in Apple’s revenue quarter after quarter.
Something similar happened in their day with the iPhone and the iPad, they began to climb the ladder to become one of the company’s main sources of income. According to a new chart shared by Horace Dediu, the Apple Watch is already a bigger business than the iPod ever was.
The graph shows Apple’s revenue from Q2 2009 through Q4 2018. This graph shows revenue from the Accessories segment, iPods and Others, the segment in which Apple includes the Apple Watch along with all other accessories now. Given the strong growth of the Apple Watch Series 4 in recent months, they have estimated their revenue.
As we can see, the Apple Watch revenue estimate has exceeded the best quarter of the iPod in Q4 2010.
In AppleApple Watch Series 4, analysis: The competition goes up
It is therefore symbolic that the iPod has been overtaken by the Apple Watch , perhaps the most logical replacement for this device. The iPod was a personal device (usually small) in which each user included their favorite music and always carried it with them. The Apple Watch does something very similar, although instead of carrying it in a pocket, we carry it on our wrist.
Now however the Apple Watch also is smarter and much more capable than the iPo d could be, something obvious with the technological evolution we have had in recent years. Although if there is certainly something that has improved with respect to the iPod is in the health functions it incorporates. The different sensors, the apps to exercise and measure our body and activities have been the differential point that distinguishes the Apple clock.
