Apple has just launched a new ad on its YouTube channel. On this occasion, the company is promoting the AirPods Pro and its capabilities to cancel and let the noise around us pass. The ad is shot in what appears to be Mexico City on a busy day.
In the two-minute video, Apple shows a protagonist leaving a bustling college in the middle of the city. On her way out she comes across a crowded street of people, traffic and noise. Until she takes out her case with her AirPods Pro.
As you walk, you listen to music until at some point you press one of them and activate the noise cancellation mode. The announcement continues to show how it alternates between transparency, which lets in the sound around us, and noise cancellation. And between the two modes, the characteristic sound that lets you know you’re passing from one to the other.
When the noise stops, the city turns into night and everyone around it disappears. Through this little story, Apple aims to make known the qualities of the AirPods Pro by “isolating” its users from the environment. This effect of isolating the user on a busy street is not new.
Four years ago, the iPhone 7 Plus debuted the portrait effect thanks to its dual rear camera. One of the ads used at that time was the one above. In it, a couple go down a street full of people and take pictures with their iPhone. Thanks to the portrait effect, the subject is highlighted over the rest of the scene.
