EVO Bank confirmed today, via its official Twitter account, that will support Apple Pay in Spain. There are no dates, just a “coming soon”, and we hope that means we have to wait a few more months but only a few more days. Ironically, many people’s views were posted on other banks before EVO made that move.
It is also not detailed if additional requirements will be asked for in order to enjoy Apple Pay, although in the image that can be seen in the confirmation video we can see one of their usual VISA cards .
In addition to EVO Banco y Caja Rural, Sodexo, a company specializing in employee services, has announced that its 60,000 users can start using Apple Pay as a payment system for Restaurant Pass, Transportation Pass and Business Pass services as of today. You can read all the information on their website.
The banks or financial entities that currently have Apple Pay in Spain are CaixaBank, Santander, OpenBank, N26, Boon and ImaginBank. The waiting list includes ING, Banco Sabadell, BBVA, Deutsche Bank, Bankia, Ibercaja, Bankinter, Kutxabank, Banco Pastor, CajaSur, Cecabank and Wizink .
The news that EVO Bank has adopted Apple Pay should put all those competitors on alert. The iPhone payment system is becoming a strong argument for more than one bank to change, and the competition between them could not be more fierce right now.
