A few hours have passed since Samsung announced the arrival of iTunes and AirPlay 2 on its televisions, but Apple has already announced that they will not be the only ones. In an update of its official AirPlay website, they show us the new features that will soon arrive at other television manufacturers to partially integrate them into the Apple ecosystem.
At AppleSamsung TVs will have AirPlay 2 and iTunes: why this is much more important news than it seems
As we can see on the official AirPlay website, we will have “soon” news regarding the playback of content from the iPhone or iPad on televisions. There are a total of three new features:
- TVs with AirPlay 2 support: Along with the Samsung TVs we’ve already seen, Apple announces that major TV manufacturers will be integrating AirPlay 2 directly into their TVs so we can easily share content from the iPhone, iPad or Mac. Remember that by AirPlay 2 the content is synchronized on multiple devices, for example the video on the TV and the sound of that video on a Sonos speakers.
- Control from the lock screen: The player that now appears on the iPhone when playing music or other things on the device, will also appear when playing content via AirPlay 2 on TVs. The iPhone will therefore become a controller with which to control what we are playing, including volume, playbar, forward, rewind and other controls.
- Siri as the content manager: AirPlay 2, HomeKit and Siri are the combination chosen by Apple. Thanks to these three components you can give an order to the iPhone type “hey Siri, put the movie Interstellar on the TV in the room. That is, Siri will be able to send a content from our iOS device to a player (TV, speaker…) with AirPlay 2 from a specific place in the house.
Unfortunately, Apple has not indicated when these new features will come. It will essentially depend on when TV manufacturers decide to launch their new TV models or update existing ones if possible. In any case, if they have already made the announcement, with the CES 2019 just started, we will surely see some new features at this fair.
