Sending your location with the iOS 11.3 SOS emergency

The iOS 11.3 update has support for Advanced Mobile Location (AML) so it will allow the addition of a feature that could save many lives by automatically sending the location when calling the emergency services.

AML technology was developed in the UK by British Telecom, EE Limited and HTC and automatically activates iPhone mobile data and location services when a user enables SOS emergency calls.

You may want to turn off your mobile device and then slide your finger over the SOS emergency option. For iPhone 8, iPhone 8 and iPhone X you will need to press and hold the side button and any of the volume buttons for a couple of seconds.

From Settings> SOS Emergency you can configure whether you want automatic calls to be made and whether you want to enable or disable the countdown sounds .

Without a doubt, this new functionality in iOS 11.3 allows the technology to take a big step forward towards a much safer future. It’s a small testament to how technology will help make this world a better place.
