The iTunes Gift Cards are a great way to buy apps from the Apple App Store, as well as to purchase music through iTunes or books from the iBook Store. But they’re not just useful for giving to one of our friends, we can use them ourselves as a prepaid card if we’re reluctant to use our credit card or similar.
Previously, the only way to redeem these cards was to enter the alphanumeric code on the back of the card. This could give some users more of a headache, so it was decided to use the device’s camera to redeem the code.
Redeeming the code from an iTunes card on an iPad or iPad Mini with iOS 7
The system for redeeming the code has not changed much from iOS 6, but the new operating system interface can be confusing and may not be available.
1. The first thing we have to do is enter the App Store application and go to the “Highlights” tab. We’ll need to scroll down the page until we see a box that says “Redeem”.
2. Once you have clicked on it, a smaller page will open indicating that you can use your iPad’s camera to redeem the gift card. Clicking on “Use Camera” will open the camera on your iPad.
3. Here we should place the card so that the camera can read the code on it perfectly. To do this, we must turn the card over to capture the code on its back. After a few seconds, the device will recognize the code and our money will automatically appear on the account.
As they pointed out in 9to5Mac, there’s one important thing to keep in mind when redeeming an iTunes Gift Card through the camera. As you can see in the image above, the code is framed within a rectangle , this is necessary for the camera to recognize the code.
Therefore, we may find that, depending on where we purchased the iTunes card, that box does not appear and we only have the code. If this is the case, we will have to redeem the card the old-fashioned way, that is, using the keyboard and trying to enter all the characters correctly.
