What is Flyover?

Flyover is a feature of Apple Maps that Cupertino’s company introduced in iOS 8. By activating this feature in the Apple map app, it displays a 3D tour of the entire city as kinematics.

Flyover combines high-resolution images with three-dimensional models to provide a “bird’s eye view” for Apple Maps users. Competing with Google’s Street View functionality, Flyover allows users to take a quick look at areas of interest in each city.

What new locations does Flyover have?

Apple has incorporated Flyover tours in the following locations:

  • Acapulco, Mexico
  • Akita, Japan

Apple has also included Atlanta, Denver and Miami to its list of locations for the “Transit” feature with traffic data. The feature was introduced in conjunction with iOS 9, and is taking a long time to reach all cities in Europe.

To activate the function, you only have to tap on the location pin and select the option “Flyover tour”. Although the function may not yet be available on all devices.

We will continue to report on the expansion of functions such as Transit and Flyover in other cities in all Spanish-speaking countries. Stay tuned to our blog!
