The day has come, and therefore the time has come for us to proceed with the installation of the new version of Apple’s operating system on our iDevice. Before that moment arrives, we need to remember a few simple steps to avoid losing files, information, or any other inconvenience, so we can proceed in a completely calm way, to analyze the virtues of this new version of the operating system.
First of all it is necessary to back up our device through iTunes. To do this we will have to connect it, via USB, to our Mac or Windows, open iTunes and in the tab Summary , which we can find in the upper left click. In this window we will select the option Make a copy now , and just below, we will be able to check when the last copy was made, so we can know for sure if we have secured our information, applications, etc.
If we want to make use, or we are already doing so, of the options offered by iCloud, of which, on the other hand, several novelties are expected with the arrival of iOS 8, the previous process is quite simplified. To check it, or to activate it, we must go to Settings , search iCloud , and activate or see if we have activated the option of Copy in iCloud . If we’ve enabled it or it was already enabled, as instructed, every time our iPhone or iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to a Wi-Fi network it will automatically back up our film, accounts, documents, and settings.
If we have chosen the option to use iCloud, but have exhausted all the storage space for our data , which is offered free of charge by Apple, to remedy this, we can follow the guidelines offered here.
Application and device compatibility
As with almost all operating system updates , most applications will work without any problems , but as always, some will still need to be adapted, which will be corrected over time.
On the other hand and with respect to the devices in which we assume that we will be able to have iOS 8 installed, it is necessary to indicate that we will have to have one of the following:
- iPhone 4s
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5s
- iPad second generation
- iPad third generation
- iPad fourth generation
- iPad mini
- iPad Air
- iPad mini with Retina display
- iPod touch 5th generation
There’s no doubt that the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 could be left out of the list of supporters and, even going further, we could venture to say that the original iPad mini could be left out as well. We’ll see that in a few hours.
Steps to upgrade our device to iOS 8
To update our device to the new version of the operating system, we must follow the usual steps that we follow with other updates. Go to Settings , then to General and once inside click on Software Update . We will immediately check if the update exists and is available and then follow the steps below to install it.
After this simple process we can now enjoy iOS 8 on our iDevice.
These were the most important steps to follow before the installation of iOS 8 , steps that we hope will be useful and avoid the unpleasant losses of information and data that sometimes occur and whose losses could cause us enormous headaches.
