But it looks like the wait is over.

OWC introduces its new MacBook Air-compatible SSD (Jun 2012) . The new Mercury Aura Pro Express 6G drive offers capacities of 120, 180, 240 and 480GB. Read and write speeds reach 501 and 503MBs respectively.

Prices for range from $167 to $644 depending on capacity . Considering the good performance of the OWC units I have tested I think they are a good option to expand the capacity of our equipment. Similarly, if you’re thinking about getting one of the new MacBook Air units and increasing capacity, you might want to think about whether or not it’s worth doing it with one of the OWC units or directly with Apple.

The price of the 512GB drive is virtually the same as the 480GB drive from OWC. Approximately $500. However, if we opt for the OWC drive we’ll get the original SSD which we can reuse or save in case of error. Too bad OWC doesn’t include a kit to convert it into an external storage unit as in other occasions .

Ah, for the MacBook Pro Retina there will still be a bit of a wait. Again, thanks to Rodri for the tip-off.
