For a while now, Apple has been buying hundreds of these chargers from different suppliers on Amazon. The idea was to test these chargers and adapters to see how efficient they were. According to the complaint filed, not only has Apple’s name been used to sell them as originals, but these chargers did not even pass the minimum security tests, thus being a risk for consumers .

Products that are sold as originals and are actually imitations pose a threat to the security of users , because unlike original Apple products, they are not subject to a security standard. And because of their inferior components or defective designs, they can overheat, catch fire, or administer an electric shock to people.

As we have indicated, during the last months Apple has acquired and tested more than 100 accessories sold as originals . According to the results, 90% of them did not even pass the minimum safety tests required in the industry. The demand is on the rise, it remains to be seen what the result will be for both the companies that sell them and the consumers.

When identifying whether you are being sold a fake Apple charger or adapter one should mainly use common sense . On the support page Apple provides a number of tricks to help you find out when a Lightning charger is counterfeit or when a MagSafe charger is not original. In general, look at the quality of the construction of the charger.

If you need a cheaper Apple charger than the ones sold by the company on the Apple Store, you certainly won’t find it , unless an authorized dealer has an offer. On the other hand, when it comes to Lightning chargers, you can always choose one that is MFi certified. These accessories have passed a series of tests by Apple to check their quality.
