The change in behavior of the power button in Macs and OS X Mavericks

Apple

OS X Mavericks has brought numerous changes, not only at the software level but also at the behavioral level. The system improves in fluidity although some features may cause opposite sensations. But the case, or rather, the change we want to show you today affects the Mac power button .

With the new version, OS X 10.9, the power button reacts differently than before. Thus, depending on how long we hold it down it will perform a certain action:

  • Quickly press the button the Mac enters Resposo mode
  • Pressing for one and a half seconds displays a window with the options Reset, Sleep, Cancel and Power Off
  • If we press and hold for ten seconds, it forces the system to shut down

Additionally, if our keyboard has an Eject key, then pressing the control and Eject key opens the same menu with the options of Reset, Sleep, Cancel and Power Off. In addition, it is important to know that Voice Over users will not receive any type of audible warning when entering Sleep mode.

A change for my positive taste. Previously, when you clicked on the button there were only two options: pressing to display the action menu and holding it down to force the system to shut down. Maybe some of you haven’t seen it yet, users like xpacho4 yes (also sent us mail with the change). I don’t know what you think, apparently not everybody liked it.
