Not one or two, but 56 patents are held by Apple for frameless devices and integrated Touch ID

Patently Apple

It’s hard to imagine an upcoming iPhone without an edge-to-edge screen and without margins. All the rumours, all the leaks and all the patents indicate the same thing: somehow or other, the screen will be virtually frameless and the Touch ID will be integrated into it.

New Apple patents discovered by Patently Apple describe exactly this, how to reduce the edges of a device and how to make the fingerprint sensor directly the screen. But the most curious thing is not that, but the fact that Apple has a total of 56 patents that refer to these two features , possibly the star features of the phone to be presented in September.

The patents actually describe how this would be used :

In other words, Apple would use a panel capable of bending at the edges to make better use of the space. This is exactly what samsung does with the Galaxy Edge and its Infinity Display. The curious thing will be to see how they present this so that it does not remind us directly of the Samsung Edge and above all, so that we do not have legal problems with the Koreans. With 56 patents behind them, it seems that they are covered.
