It seems that yes, Apple had some surprise in store for us and didn’t save it for the end of the keynote, but revealed it at the beginning of the event: Nintendo arrives at the App Store with Super Mario Run .
Apple invited Miyamoto-san, the creator of the character, to present the game to the audience of Bill Graham and all of us who are following the event via streaming. During the presentation they made a small demo where we could see the game in action and get an idea of how it will work once it’s available.
Super Mario Run will be an infinite-run type game that can be played with just one hand. The sets and gameplay mechanics are reminiscent of the early deliveries of Super Mario and promise hours of fun and nostalgia with this character so beloved by the general public.
In addition, the game will arrive accompanied by a set of stickers for use in iMessage as soon as iOS 10 is available.
With this move, Nintendo officially lands on mobile devices and does so with one of its most popular franchises: Super Mario. At the moment there is no official release date, although they have assured that will be available during the second half of 2016 .
It will be a pay game and will not feature in-app purchases . This means that we’ll have to pay a still unknown amount to download it from the App Store, but once that amount is paid we’ll be able to enjoy it fully on our iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
What do you think of this news? For me it’s great news, since Mario is one of my favorite characters and I didn’t expect it to be announced today.
