A recent Nintendo patent gives us clues about the company’s possible future plans for mobile devices. According to the patent text, this is a Game Boy housing with a capacitive touch screen, so it would fit perfectly with devices like the iPhone. It is a case where users can fit the device and possibly use it to play Game Boy games.
Although the patent was filed on 16 March 2018, it was recently shared by a user on Reddit. As can be seen in the patent images, the case would have a cover and the front would feature the classic Game Boy buttons , plus the front square space where it is possible to view the screen displaying the games.
To make the case functional, the inner part would have the other side of the buttons touching the screen at the exact points to make users feel they’re playing a traditional Game Boy almost exactly. According to the patent, the game would be displayed on the corresponding part of the touch screen that can be seen, making it possible to play with the cover attached to the touch screen device.
On the other hand, according to the patent, the case also leaves a small window open for the front camera and the device’s speaker, and the top and bottom of the phone are not obstructed, so the user can connect the iPhone to a speaker or USB device while playing without any problem. The camera and speaker can also be used as intended.
At the moment it’s only a patent, so we don’t know if Nintendo will finally release it or if it will happen soon , but I’m sure all the gamers in the world are waiting for it to happen.
