Nest launches Protect, the first fire detector I wouldn’t mind having

While many of us are still waiting impatiently for the European launch of their intelligent thermostat, Nest , the company founded by the well-known creator of the iPod , Tony Fadell, has just launched its next product: a fire detector like no other you’ve seen so far.

Nest Protect detects smoke and carbon monoxide, resolves all defects in traditional detectors at a stroke and of course connects to our iPhone to warn us of any dangerous situation even when we are not at home.

Some of its innovations include voice prompts that not only warn us of the problem by accompanying the classic beeps but, in the case of several units connected to each other, clearly inform us of the room in the house where the danger has occurred.

Was it a false alarm? You shake your hand and the detector stops. No climbing on a ladder or hitting him with a broom handle. Plus, as an added feature even on quiet nights, Protect glows with a light when we pass under it to light our way in the dark.

Protect is available in the US as a pre-sale at a price of $129 in two colors, white or black, and with two models depending on our needs: with long-life battery or connected to power (eye, 120V, not the 220V we use in Spain). Amazon, Apple, Best Buy and other stores will start offering it from November.
