Cult of MacProyecto de Kickstarter
Contrary to popular belief, the iPhone’s side switch does not completely mute each and every sound coming from the phone, but is rather limited to the ring tone, notifications and the occasional sound effect. Clock alarms, many games, or even the camera’s shutter release effect are immune to mute mode.
Mutator solves the problem in the simplest (and most far-fetched) way, considering how easy it should be for Apple to introduce a more aggressive option in the “Do not disturb” mode settings, by making the phone believe that we have connected a headset, driving all the sound to nowhere.
Taking this little invention off and on would be anything but practical, so its creators have designed it so that one part makes contact and the other does not. Turn it and you will activate this “total silence mode”, turn it 90 degrees and you will have sound again.
Mutator is one of the many projects we can find at Kickstarter these days with the iPhone as the center of gravity, and although it still has a long way to go to raise the $24,000 it needs to manufacture and distribute them with the quality they expect, using the same anodized aluminum of the iPhone 5. Do you think they will make it?
