MrMC will be for many a totally unknown application and for others a Kodi-based media center. Well, its developers have managed to bring it to the fourth generation Apple TV and the application is being reviewed by Apple.

As announced in their forums, the MrMC application for tvOS is waiting for review. If Apple approves it we’ll have one more option to play all kinds of content that we can store in different locations, such as network servers, shared folders and so on.

If you have used Kodi, formerly known as XBMC, you will know what kind of media center it is and what it can offer. Although it is true that Plex weighs a lot and for most is the number one choice. Then there is the second group of users that a “simple” media player is enough.

I am in favour of what MrMC can bring to the table. My experience with Kodi has always been good, in fact I still use it on a Raspeberry Pi. So we’ll have to keep an eye on him to see how he progresses. And of course, to see if the official version of Kodi arrives on the App Store of the new Apple TV.
