Whether you’ve just received your first Apple headset or you’re a veteran, it never hurts to know a few AirPod 2 tricks . The truth is, these headphones hold little secrets. Let’s review some features and tricks that might have gone unnoticed.
Use Oye Siri to invoke the wizard on AirPods 2
With the AirPods 2 comes the Oye Siri function , so you can summon the assistant without having to double-tap one of the headphones. This means that you now have Siri just two words away, always at your disposal. You can ask her to call your contacts, give you information, control your home automation and send messages, among other things.
On Apple35 easy ways to use Siri in your daily life
We recommend that you take a look at this article with very useful Siri commands so that you can take advantage of all its possibilities on a daily basis.
Enables fast actions with touches
Now that we have Oye Siri, you can take advantage of it to modify the quick actions that the AirPods have. Go to Settings> Bluetooth and press the “i” next to the name of your AirPods. There you can choose the actions for each of your two AirPods, e.g. left to skip song, right to go back. With this set up, double tap one of them to activate its function.
Rename your AirPods
In the same menu we entered earlier, you will see that you can change the name of your AirPods . By default, they will be called “Fulanito AirPods”, but you can set the one you prefer.
Wirelessly charge them
If you have bought the wireless charging case, take advantage of it and charge them this way . In my case, I hope that this way I won’t forget to have it charged in critical moments: a trip or going to the gym, for example.
Don’t mix your AirPods
Users of original AirPods who have decided to take over the second generation should not be afraid to mix them up. If at any time you mix them and you can’t tell them apart , don’t worry. When you approach the open case with the AirPods inside, you will see a warning like this so you know which one is which regardless of the generation.
Use with any Apple device including Android
For those of us who have more than one Apple product, AirPods are a very comfortable headset with which to switch from one sound source to another. From your Mac or iPhone , to your iPad, Apple Watch or Apple TV. Now, with the AirPods 2 that change from one to the other is much faster.
At Apple we already have them: ‘unboxing’ and first impressions of the AirPods 2
If these devices have your own Apple ID , you do not need to perform any pairing. And if you want, you can also use them with Android devices, although some features are not available (Siri, for example).
How to check the charge of your AirPods
From an iPhone, you can access the battery widget to find out how much charge your AirPods have. If you are wearing them, you can see how much battery power is left in them . When you leave your iPhone behind and are on your Apple Watch only, you can also view battery life through the Clock Control Center by tapping on the battery percentage. That’s where the clock and your headphones will appear.
How to connect them to your Apple TV
Earlier we mentioned Apple TV as an audio source to listen to with AirPods. With them on, go to the Apple TV’s main screen and press and hold the Play Pause button for a few seconds until a menu appears. You will see all the available audio outputs, which should include your AirPods. Select them and you will be able to listen to the TV without disturbing anyone.
Search for your lost AirPods
With the Find My iPhone app you can track your lost AirPods. Here you will see the last location they were connected to on your iPhone, marked in gray . If they are within range of your iPhone, you can play a sound that increases until you locate them. Perfect for when you lose them between the cushions of your sofa.
Use Hearing to listen further
With your iPhone and AirPods you can use the Hearing function to listen perfectly at a distance. From your iPhone Control Centre under Settings, make sure you have added the option so that you can then activate it. This can be useful if you’re in a class where you can’t hear well, leave your iPhone with Hearing enabled near the teacher, and sit wherever you want. You should be able to hear everything that is said without any problems.
Keep your AirPods clean and sparkling
With use and over the months, your AirPods will accumulate dust and dirt . You can clean it up with a dry swab, but the best option is to use a little putty to stick posters like Blue-Tack . Stick it in all the nooks and crannies (without inserting it in the holes where the AirPod antennas go) to remove and clean the case and headphones.
What the LED colours on the case mean
Both the normal and the wireless charging case have an LED . This light can be of three colours and reflects different situations:
- Green: AirPods are charged.
- Orange: The AirPods are charging.
- White: AirPods are not configured.
- They don’t light up: no battery.
How to Factory Reset AirPods
To reset your AirPods and to factory default , do the following:
- Under Settings , Bluetooth , AirPods , skip device.
- Press and hold the back button of the case with the lid up. The LED will change from orange to white and back to orange.
