Mechanical keyboards. An almost completely abandoned peripheral but with a handful of die-hard typing enthusiasts. Noisy for most mortals, they are a completely indispensable tool in the day-to-day life of these users. If you’ve ever considered getting a mechanical keyboard for your Mac that’s also customised , you should check out the V2 Mechanical Keyboard.
WASD Keyboards is a company that specializes in customizable mechanical keyboards, for computers of any operating system. Among them are macOS and Windows, as well as other options such as Ubuntu, Linux or Amiga. They offer three main types of mechanical keyboards that vary according to the number of keys they have:
- 104 keys, with function keys, arrows and numpad for $150.
- 87 keys, with function keys and arrows but no numpad for $145.
- 61 keys, no function keys, arrows or numpad for $140
It is a keyboard with a high price, but it compensates for its level of customization. In the V2 Mechanical Keyboard customizer we will be able to choose which layout the keys have , their operating system, icons on the customizable keys, colors, switch type and the option to incorporate “mutes”.
This is the WASD keyboard of our colleague Cristian Rus, with 61 keys, two colors and without the “name” of the keys.
An interesting detail is that it is a mechanical cable keyboard, which can be interchanged to suit the type of input you have on your Mac either USB-A or USB-C . If you are interested in this subject, on the WASD website they have some keyboards that imitate the old ones from Olivetti and other brands. In the following video you can see a user review:
