Apple’s iPad Air 2… is it close?
A few days ago, a rumour was circulating that Cupertino’s company had two new tablets in mind. On the one hand, there would be the iPad Mini Air with a 7.9-inch screen; on the other, a device that at the moment is only known as the iPad PRO, which would be focused on a much more professional segment and would have a 12.9-inch panel. But that doesn’t seem to be all.
Cupertino’s people seem to be interested in renewing their main tablet as well, following their tradition of every year. And although at the moment we don’t have any official information from the company, by now enough rumours have been leaked that could give us some clues about their technical profile. The device could be released under the name iPad Air 2 , following the trail of the original iPad Air. If you want to know a summary of everything that has been said so far about the company’s next tablet, continue with us and we will show you.
A summary of all the rumours seen so far about the iPad Air 2
Design and screen
One of the features that surprised us most at the launch of the iPad Air was its dimensions. The tablet weighed an incredible 469 grams and was only 7.5 millimeters thick. So far, no details have been given about the dimensions of this new generation, but the truth is that Apple’s true intention is to dethrone the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 as the lightest device on the market. This means that the new iPad Air 2 should be less than 6.4 millimetres thick and weigh less than 426 grams . The main case could be made of aluminum, following the patterns of the previous iPad Air, and you might see some of its components redesigned: the mute button, the speaker grilles, and the volume buttons.
On top of that, it is rumored that the new iPad Air 2 should have the Touch ID fingerprint scanner integrated, a system that could be used for many things like unlocking the screen (just like the current iPhone 5s), shopping, etc. The possibilities of this button are endless, just wait for the developers to go deeper into the subject.
As far as the screen is concerned, it looks like there won’t be too many changes. At least in terms of size. It is believed that the iPad Air 2 will be able to go on stage with a 9.7-inch LCD screen and a 4:3 aspect ratio . There’s not much data on its resolution either, but will most likely remain at 1536×2048 pixels, with a density of 264 ppi . It remains to be seen whether Tim Cook will install the same sapphire glass screen on this computer that is rumored to include the iPhone 6, which is much more scratch and shock resistant.
More technical specifications
The screen and design aren’t the only things that concern potential iPad buyers. If you look closely at all the rumours that have been going around to date, the iPad Air 2 will come with quite a few improvements under the hood and at the same time will be able to retain its energy potential . What is most striking to the experts is undoubtedly the processor. For this occasion, it seems that Apple has chosen a 64-bit A8 chip, capable of reaching a clock frequency of 2.6 GHz , although the truth is that some rumors bet on a maximum of 2.0 GHz.
Finally, there has also been a lot of talk about its internal capacity. It seems quite clear that Apple will present up to four different versions that will have different memory and, of course, different price. Thus, it is very likely that we will be able to see with 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB versions.
The operating system
In this section there will be no surprises, as the new iPad Air 2 will arrive on the market with the new iOS 8 , the latest version of Apple’s operating system. This new version of the operating system includes many improvements as we have already mentioned in another article. One of the most important features could be the new multitasking. Thanks to this new system, iPad users will be able to enjoy several applications at the same time in split screen, a feature that we can already find in tablets like the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
Price and release date
All the pools are aimed at next October, as was the case last year with the launch of the iPad Air and the fourth generation iPad. They could be released to the public before Christmas, between November and December . Its price, as with the models that have been released so far, could be between 479 and 869 euros , depending on the internal memory (12, 32, 64 and 128 GB), whether the equipment is only prepared for WiFi connectivity or whether it also has access to LTE4G networks.
As we always say, we have to have a little patience and wait to see what Cupertino’s boys have in store for us, although I’m sure we’ll be surprised. From iPadizate we will be attentive to any news or rumor that may come to light to keep you informed.
