The entry and exit of personnel in any company is normal. Of course, some movements are more important. Either because of the position occupied or because of their contributions. John Harper’s is a normal person, although for many he may be a complete stranger. He was the responsible for the design and implementation of Core Animation in the iPhone’s debut.
Now, as he announced on Twitter, he will be joining Facebook. Where seeing projects like Paper or Origami will surely be important for future plans. Of course, as he also makes clear, it’s not an Apple outlet to go on Facebook. He had already been out of Cupertino’s company for a year. But beyond his work at Apple, of course important, I am concerned about that brain drain.
When a designer, engineer, programmer or any other Apple staff leaves the company I have no doubt that they can be replaced by someone with the same or even more knowledge. The problem is that I fear that the culture, the philosophy of the company will be lost.
Companies evolve and Apple is no exception but the idea of becoming a company without the strong personality it has had until now makes me uneasy. And that personality is given to it by its employees.
