Jennifer Aniston has won the SAG award for best female performance for her role as Alex Levy in The Morning Show. The Television Actors Association (SAG) awarded Aniston this prize last night, winning out to Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Colman (both for The Crown), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) and Elisabeth Moss (The Maid’s Tale).
The SAG awards are among the most prestigious in television, although behind in importance to the Golden Globes. It is the second time that an Apple TV+ series receives a grand prize . A few days ago, Billy Crudup was the best supporting actor in the Critics Choice Awards.
The Morning Show was initially criticized in its presentation to the specialized media. However, in the premiere only three of the ten chapters that make up this first season were shown. As the episodes have gone by, the public has come to recognise the series in a better light.
Such awards are essential if Apple is to carve out a niche for itself in the ever-increasing competition. The company is one of the last to enter in the war of streaming , although it does so by targeting higher quality series instead of quantity. For this reason, the awards serve both to give visibility to their productions and to gain recognition for their actors.
